Audiences seeing the Cradle of Fire film in 360 degrees for the first time described it as “fabulous” and “exciting”.
Carolyn Waudby and Diana Scarborough were commissioned to show an immersive version of their film in a new Igloo projection space at Sheffield Hallam University for the 2025 No Bounds Festival .
Filmmaker Diana Scarborough collaborated with technical experts at the university to convert the film for the Switch Room section of the #festival programme.
Cradle of Fire re-imagines the story of #Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, furnaces and volcanoes and a symbol of #Sheffield, blending an original script, #poetry and rap written by Carolyn Waudby with recordings of industrial processes, song and images.
Waudby and Scarborough worked with museum collections at Kelham Island, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and The Land of Iron. Recordings and soundtrack were put together by international musicologist Kim Cunio who visited Sheffield in 2024.
No Bounds was founded and directed by Liam O’Shea. Switch Room was curated by
Amy Carter Gordon with Creative Producer Lauren McConnell.
