Website unveiled for Cradle of Fire film

The Cradle of Fire team are thrilled to launch the website for their forthcoming film on Roman god #Vulcan.

Work is hard underway on the writing, recording and research for the story of the god of fire, furnaces and #volcanoes, who was adopted as an icon for Sheffield’s #steel industry.

Vulcan made his forge in mount #Etna and was respected for his skill as a blacksmith, but feared for his power over fire. He fashioned tools and weapons, including thunderbolts for his father #Jupiter and a helmet for the messenger god #Mercury.

Volcanoes were said to be the result of him beating out his rage on his anvil.

Carolyn writes: “I’m using excerpts from the poetry I’ve been writing on the Vulcan story for the film’s narrative, but also on wider subjects such as volcanoes, oceans and ocean life, and metal working, which makes it a rich experience.

“Diana [Scarborough] and I will be looking at putting the words, visuals and soundtrack together in coming weeks after some incredible recording sessions in #Sheffield and north Yorkshire.”

Progress on the project can be followed through blog posts written by the team members working in partnership with Sheffield Museums and The Land of Iron, Cleveland, Yorkshire.

Members of families who worked in the steel industry have also generously contributed stories and accounts handed down by previous generations.

The #film is due for release in autumn 2024.
